Lovin' the Skin You're In: The Juicy Woman's Guide to Making Peace with Food and Friends with Your BodyTable of Contents:
Are you a woman tired of struggling with dieting and feeling out of control around food?
Do you realize that your weight problem is not just about food?
If you've been a dieter or watched your weight for any length of time, you probably know what it's like to struggle with wanting to eat everytime you see food. It seems that everywhere you look, there's food. And you want to eat it all. From the time you wake up in the morning to the moment you go to sleep, you are obsessed with food.
Maybe you've come to the place in your life where you feel completely out of control with your eating. As much as you wish you could serve yourself smaller portions, and just eat less, your plate sizes and portions seem to be getting bigger. Whether you binge or try desperately to keep food arm's distance way, nothing seems to be enough to quiet those desperate cries of hunger.
You're probably asking yourself, "Why can't I just stop eating so much, How did I let myself get so fat?" But those deadend questions only lead you deeper into a self-pity pit that ends up with another binge.
Is it sheer torture getting dressed every day, facing a closetful of clothes that don't fit? Are you exhausted, feeling disgusted and dumpy and frumpy trying to squeeze into clothes that are too tight? Are you afraid or unwilling to buy clothes that fit you now, because you're still waiting for that one day when you'll lose the weight?
Are you feeling worn out and frustrated because everything you see, every picture, every advertisement, every Drive Thru calls to you and reminds you how hungry you feel, because no matter how much you eat, you just can't seem to get enough or ever feel satisfied?
Are you so done with feeling inferior and insecure and afraid to shine your light, because of your weight? Want to learn how to RECLAIM your life and feel good about yourself again?
The answer is not another diet, and you don't have to wait. Why?
"Life doesn't begin 5 pounds from now." - Jessica Weiner
Would you like to learn how to call a truce on the war with your body and feel safe and sane living surrounded by and eating all the foods you love?
If you're struggling tooth and nail with cravings and food fantasies leading you around all day long by the nose, it's not evidence of a lack of will power, a personality defect, a chemical imbalance, a slow metabolism, rotten genes or a bad habit. It's none of those things. The real cause of your overeating and obsessive 'food think' is not what you're eating, it's what's eating you! Stress!
Just go on a diet. Right?
Like most other women, I was taught the answer to life’s problems was to go on a diet. From the time that I was 10 years old, I struggled desperately trying to tame the size of my thighs to no avail.
But nobody ever explained to me that we wear our emotions on our body. Every thought you think lives in your memory. Every cell in your body holds that memory. If like me, you’ve lived much of your life living to make others happy, you've learned to be the consummate people pleaser, never say "no" gal. There's a good chance that your body probably reflects that. Perhaps, like me, maybe you also built up a wall. Maybe it's not your thighs, maybe it shows up as a muffin top, a jiggly butt, batwing arms, or a rounded tummy. No matter where you carry your excess weight, there's a gift in it for you.
As women we’re taught to believe that the solution to our problems exists outside of ourselves. In our thin is beautiful, pluck and tuck, chop and drop, image-obsessed society, we’re led to think of our curvy bodies as less than, ugly and downright unacceptable. Don't you see? That’s part of the problem. As long as you continue to hate your body, it will continue to hate you back. That can show up in so many ways from not being able to stop eating those potato chips to beating up on yourself to perhaps one day getting a cancer diagnosis from your doctor. Resentment kills.
My name is Andrea Amador. I'm a Professional Certified Empowerment Coach and a Body Image/ Self Esteem expert. But I didn't always have the confidence that I have now.
For 18 1/2 years, I ran a family business and managed 3 multi-million dollar residential and commercial buildings in Manhattan with 110 families. Because I didn't believe in myself and had no sense of personal value, I gave my services away and wrote myself a check each week in the amount of $150. When I finally grew a backbone and demanded what I deserved for so many years of loyalty and hard work, it was too late. In the end, after I negotiated the sale of the buildings for $11.5M, and was offered 49% of the proceeds of the sale on the strength of a verbal promise, I walked away with nothing.
I was so sad about this for a long time. I was hurting. My house became a war zone with blame and resentment flying in angry barbs every day. Those were dark days, filled with sadness and fear. Blaming others for my misery, I learned some painful lessons that included an estrangement from my father, being on welfare, facing a crumbling marriage and losing my home.
But in the end, after I got honest with myself, I realized that I created my own misery because I gave my power away. I didn't believe that I was capable of running a business so I took none of the credit. It was my low self esteem that kept me standing in my own way, always believing that I didn't deserve good things.
If you've been settling for less in any aspect of your life from the bedroom to the boardroom, it's never too late to make a change.
